"Isn't there anyone we can give bad grades to?"

Simon, a Managing Director, learned from HR that his group seems to have a case of “grade inflation” when it comes to performance rankings for his department. Listen to the audio clip:

Ed, SVP, heard through the grapevine that Walter, an employee, was dissatisfied with Ed’s management style. Walter is getting to ready to lodge a formal “hostile environment” complaint with HR. Ed decides to try to “nip this thing in the bud” by initiating a conversation with Walter to find out where it went wrong.

My first thought about this conversation is about how every conversation is different. We plan and plan and plan for every contingency. But we still need to be flexible and adaptable once we actually begin to engage with the thing we can’t plan for and control - the other person.

Thank you to Shannon and Marc for bringing Shelley, the supervisor, and Sam, the employee, to such vivid life as the bad news about Sam’s performance was delivered.

It continues to be amazing how even in our practice session, the feelings are real, the nerves are real, and the stakes feel real.

Sexual Harassment Interventions

Awareness and Prevention

Nobody wants to go to sexual harassment prevention training.  And everybody will make fun of it going into the session.

But, our sexual harassment workshops, with its audio podcasts, are an effective, easy, fun, approachable method for clearly communicating the company's expectations regarding appropriate workplace behavior. The workshops reinforce organizational values and promote an environment free of unwanted behaviors.

California, Connecticut and Maine all require supervisors to receive two hours of sexual harassment prevention training every two years. Each require specific course content that must be included. In addition to the training being effective and approachable, our Sexual Harassment Prevention training is utilized in these states and is compliant with their requirements.

Our TMG's Sexual Harassment Prevention training helps supervisors and managers understand what a complaint of harassment looks like; how and when a supervisor should talk to Human Resources; and provides specific strategies for recognizing, responding to and resolving complaints of sexual harassment and unlawful discrimination.

  • "Tim Mulvaney has been an incredible resource"
"I know I've mentioned this in this past but wanted to reiterate once again more formally. Tim Mulvaney has been an incredible resource to the Affinity Groups. He has really ignited our initiative and he has been instrumental with helping us put together an action plan, implement it, and ensure there is a coordinated effort amongst the groups. He continuously prods us and gets on all of our busy calendars to make sure we keep moving forward. He does all of this with constant enthusiasm and a can-do attitude." Affinity Group Leader, Director, Financial Services Provider
  • "What Courageous Conversations did for me"
I attended two of the Courageous Conversations seminars recently. Your seminars provided me with balance and the tools I needed to realize a career decision. I just wanted to thank you and to let you know this. Your seminars really helped me to think this decision through and weigh all of the possiblities. They also gave me a fundamental insight into the fact that I can engage in a courageous conversation not only with others but with myself. Thank you for helping me to muster the courage to change an unworkable situation and the courage to explore new challenges. University Employee
